How does NexpartB2C manage tax?

Your website can be configured to charge tax in any state simply by entering the rate and the state code in the "Tax Maintenance" screen found in your control panel (maintedittax.wws).   Simply add the link maintedittax.wws to your webstore's url.  Merchants can configure multiple tax rates (For example:  GST/PST/VST in Canada).  There is much controversy in the US about who should pay for tax, the company shipping the product, the company purchasing the product as a 'middle man', and finally the consumer who is ultimately placing the order.  There is much inconsistency throughout our client base and throughout the USA as well.  Be sure to check with your Tax preparer for all tax matters before deciding to charge only a maximum sales tax rate in your state.

With the above said, Sophio taxation is calculated based on rates supplied by our merchants. Our merchants enter in tax rates either by state, city, county, or zip. If a merchant enters a rate at the STATE level, then any consumer located in the same state as the merchant would get the matching rate. If the merchant enters a rate for each city of the states they conduct business in, then that rate would be applied to the consumers order. If the merchant enters a rate based on a zip code, then the consumer pays the rate if his the code matches. This can be confiigured by visiting the maintedittax.wws link at your store as mentioned above.

Finally, if you want your store to base the tax only on where you ship the product, then go to store settings and look for the field TaxByShipT and turn it on.  Depending on the version of Sophio you use, you may need to visit the advanced settings page:  mainteditstore.wws, you can also visit the storesetup.wws page and click the tab for 'tax'.
